After being defeated twice at home and with some changes to the seniors squad, Preston managed to get its first result at home on the weekend with a 3 – 0 win over La Trobe University SC.

Preston went into the game with one mission in hand and that was to finally get a result at home and the much needed 3 points for the season.

With the pressure applied from the very start of the game and Preston’s defender Caner Ucarli hitting the post twice, the first goal finally came after 30 min form our midfielder Robert Najdovski who had a great game on the day by scoring 2 goals.

Just before the break Robert Dolevski scored the second goal and with the lead of 2-0 Preston went into the changing rooms confident and hungry to get the season back on track with a much needed win which came with another brilliant goal by R. Najdovski in the 80th minute.

With 7 points and sitting on 6th place, Preston plays Altona East Phoenix SC away next Saturday 18th May at 3:00pm.

Our reserves also managed to bounce back after going down 1-0 in the first half with a 2-1 win.

Here’s a video of he celebration in the club rooms after the game:

After a heavy loss at the hands of Whittlesea Rangers two weeks ago, the Lions will come into this game high on confidence following a hard fought 2-1 away victory over Sunbury United in the State Knockout Cup last weekend. With goals coming from youngsters Nikola Naumovski and Filip Dimovski, the Lions have now progressed to the Round of 16 in that competition and will take on the Western Eagles in early June for the chance to reach the Quarter Finals and a much anticipated clash against Victorian Premier League opposition.

Back to this weekend, Preston will also likely be boosted by the return of strike partners Robert Dolevski and Danny Barakat who will provide some much needed firepower up front. It will be a younger looking Lions line up and they will be hungry to get the season back on track with a big win!

Despite disappointing results from our Senior Mens and Women’s side on the weekend the club was pleased with the outcome and positive feedback regarding the half time (Mens Seniors match) Juniors U7 friendly match in conjuction with Lalor United SC. This initiative was a first for the club and it was great to see the smiles on the kids faces and getting a chance to play on the big stage. A special thanks to Zivko Kolevski (Committee) and Jess Cvetkovska (U7 Coach) for coordinating the event and also to the parents of both sets of kids for their cooperation.

The initiative reaffirmed the committment that is being placed on the Juniors Program and also trying to attract families to our home games and forging a closer link between the Seniors and Juniors components of the club.

The club was also delighted to have present in our VIP area some noteable FFV represantatives, namely President Nick Monteleone accompanied by a couple of Board Directors. It was a great opportunity for both the FFV and Committee representatives to catch up and discuss various issues and the club extends their welcome mat out to them in the future.

Original Story: http://www.thecourier.com.au/story/1450252/soccer-from-joy-to-heartbreak-for-red-devils/?cs=63

BALLARAT Red Devils gave up a two-goal lead to lose to Preston Lions in Football Federation Victoria state league two at Trekardo Park on Saturday.

This leaves the Haymes Red Devils without a win after three rounds.

The young Reds, who featured eight teenagers among the 14 players they used, sit ninth with just the one point to their name.

Ballarat led by two goals midway through the first half.

Josh Romein converted a penalty after Dom Swinton was brought down in the box on 26 minutes.

The emerging Pietro Angeli then continued on his scoring way to double the advantage.

It was ultimately to be heartbreak for the home outfit, though, when a Swinton deflection resulted in an own goal in the last minute of the game.

Reds coach Sinisa Cohadzic said the momentum of the game changed when Ballarat gave up a “soft” goal just before the break on 41 minutes.

“With a team including seven players 17 or under, we still wanted to be positive, but the inexperience started to show,” he said.

“We started to drop back and doubt ourselves.”

Ballarat had opportunities to put the game away.

None better than when Michael Trigger found Swinton just inside the box, only to see his shot cleared off the line after beating the Preston goalkeeper.

It was not long after this and a similar chance that Preston levelled the game – opening it up for what eventually would be a match-winner.

Cohadzic said he felt for all the players in losing a game in such a cruel way.

“We could have finished the game midway through the second half when we missed two pretty easy chances,” he said..

“But as I said to the players after the game, they can lift their heads up high and be proud of the way they took the game on against an experienced and promotion bound team.”

The Reds should field a stronger team against East Altona in the next round, with Ian Nolan available after getting an international transfer and Rhyse Crowe returning from suspension.

The pre-season period has been a busy one for all players, coaches and committee members, and with the Under 11s, 12s and 14s all receiving the benefit of the world recognised COERVER Coaching Program, we’re excited to see how the children put their newly found skills into practice. We wish them all the best of luck for the season, and hope it is an enjoyable one for them!

On the 22nd of March 2013, seven young members from the Preston Lions Men’s Reserves team jetted out for Barcelona, Spain, to compete in the Mediterranean International Cup (MIC) World Youth Tournament as part of the Under 16 and Under 19 Australian Football Skool (AFS) representative squads. They will be swapping their red and yellow Preston kits for the yellow and blue colours of the AFS.

The squads are made up of talented young players from all parts of Victoria and they come from many different football clubs. This U19 squad will be the youngest in the competition with an average age of 16-17. All of these players have participated in the AFS program during the 2012-13 Summer and have successfully trialed in order to be eligible for the representative squads. AFS have had several squads compete in many prestigious tournaments all over the globe and are the only Australian Academy exclusively invited to many of these events. For more information on the AFS Australian Football Skool, please visit www.footballskool.com.au

The MIC World Youth Tournament will play host to teams from Spain, Portugal, Colombia, Indonesia, Ireland, Hong Kong, Finland, USA, Qatar, England, Mexico, Venezuela, Israel, Argentina, Russia, Brazil, Peurto Rico, Lebanon, Norway, Germany, Poland, Japan and South Africa. Competition will be fierce both physically and mentally and a good eye opener for those in the squad who have not had the experience of playing against teams who have trained together every day for many years. Some of the players will know what to expect as this is not their first overseas tournament. When they are not playing, they have been lucky enough to secure training sessions with Spanish side RCD Espanyol and once the tournament concludes, they will attend the Espanyol vs Real Sociedad game in the Spanish Primera Liga. The players land back in Melbourne on the 5th of April and we are sure they will be fitter, stronger and ready to put everything they have learned in Spain into practice here for the Preston Lions.

Players pictured from left to right.

Daniel Spasovski (U19), Aleksandar Rizmanoski (U19), James Dafoski (U19) Captain, Bobi Petrovski (U16), Mende Petrevski (U19), Daniel Petrovski (U19), Dean Pereski (U19)

Preston Lions FC has been home to some very talented players over the years and most of the players pictured started their playing journey here at Preston with all of them playing Reserves this season and for some of them this will be their 11th year at the club.
